Our Story

Welcome to Studio Allegory

Studio Allegory is a space for people to explore new and different ways of queer intimacies. As an open center for research in this context, we are creating and holding a space for community, education, research, as well as a small, carefully curated shop section. Studio Allegory understands itself as a queer space that is open to all LGBTQIA2S+ folks and friends.

Studio Allegory is a space for the exploration and education of queer intimacies, kinks, sexualities, and relationships. It was founded in October 2024 and opened on March 7th, 2025 by Georg Barkas, Emmy Knother, and Addie Tahl.

We are organizing educational and social events for primarily queer and otherwise marginalized and policed groups and bodies.

Our main focus from the beginning is the creation of an environment that feels open enough to explore what’s outside of the mainstream kink scene and how we can relate to each other not via the usual romantic and known avenues.

As such, we understand and maintain Studio Allegory as a safer space. That means, we are aware that there is no such thing as a safe space but that we can create it in a way that is as safe as possible, while not limiting the openness of it.

Studio Allegory rests on three pillars:

Education

We organize and teach almost daily classes about topics from kink, intimacy, sexuality, and relationship. Those classes and workshops vary in terms of skill level, content, format, and length.

Community

The central pillar of Studio Allegory consists of an understanding of community that sees the term itself as a verb rather than a noun. Community is something that we all constantly work on. Community is something that is not always comfortable and free of conflict but it always provides care for each other. We see community not as a closed ecosystem of just the participants of our events but rather as something that is in constant exchange with its close and further environment. Have a read of the community work and reconciliation efforts we make.

Research

We are convinced that we as a kink scene only know a tiny fraction of what is possible in terms of practices, meanings, and approaches to kink, intimacy, sexuality, and relationships. Part of our efforts consists of asking questions, relocating meanings, finding different applications and goals of encountering, and relating to, each other.

Studio Allegory, and its research and educational programs is seeking to abolish hegemonic and normalitarian approaches to kink, intimacy, and sexuality. To abolish them does not mean one should not engage in certain ‘normal’ encounters. We don’t want to take away anyone’s cliché hetero sex. But we want to get rid of the deeply rooted belief that this is the best or even the so-called normal way of encountering each other intimately.
