Accessibility is at the very core of anything that deals with the interaction of human beings. The way accessibility is approached and handled determines who can participate. It defines to which degree individuals can express themselves and explore themselves and others in a free and as safe as possible way.
As a space for queer and otherwise marginalized and policed people, Studio Allegory approaches accessibility as a concept that lies at the intersection of gender, race, body types, neurodivergence, disability, sexuality, and economic background.
We are not trying to make the studio accessible for everyone but we do everything we can to make it welcoming specifically for those who historically don’t have access to spaces.
Access in that sense doesn’t come without friction as different types of accessibility interfere with others. This friction is not considered a problem but rather something we can all learn from. Access friction allows us to investigate how to create spaces that allow members of the community to work together.
Below are some of the actual and physical means by which we make Studio Allegory as accessible as possible. If you have any questions about different or individual accommodations of accessibility needs, please contact us.
